The Daily News in Southwest Washington state is looking for a versatile photographer to join our team.

If you are the ideal candidate, storytelling comes naturally to you. Sports photography is a passion of yours, but you're just as comfortable taking a video of a sunset over Mount St. Helens. You can create photos and videos that surprise readers, move or amuse them.

You can pitch ideas for long-term photo and video projects but also juggle daily assignments. As part of a small but creative and passionate team, you'll brainstorm with reporters and editors to find the very best way to illustrate a story.

This is a union position with pay starting at $43,680 annually. Hours vary and will include weekend shifts.

A full set of Canon equipment will be provided, and a laptop with software including Photo Mechanic and Adobe Creative Suite.

This position is responsible for:

• Operating photography equipment to take photographs for news and sports stories.
• Coordinating with reporters to come up with the best ways to illustrate stories.
• Operating filmography equipment to film videos for news and sports stories.
• Transferring photographs and videos to computers for editing and uploading them onto a content management system or other programs.
• Clearly describing photos and videos with clear, concise captions in AP style.
• Creating computer-generated graphics or animation.
• Possibly assisting with recording podcasts and studio video work.
• Working as a team player and individually as needed, training reporters on equipment when needed.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Longview is located about 45 minutes north of Portland, Oregon, and two hours south of Seattle. Love nature? The Pacific Ocean is a one-hour drive to the west, the Columbia River Gorge is about an hour south, and Mount St. Helens and surrounding lakes and mountains are an hour to the east.
