SUMMARY
This is a manual labor performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks at Regional Transit System (RTS) facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs routine grounds and road right-of-way cleaning and maintenance.
Mows grass with power, push-type, or small tractor mower.
Cuts, pulls and hoes weeds. Sprays ditches and fence lines for weed control.
Trims and prunes shrubbery and small trees. Loads trash and trimmings on truck. Rakes leaves and edges curbs.
Cleans and maintains garden equipment. Greases and makes minor repairs on equipment.
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of varied facilities. Sweeps sidewalks and parking lots. At RTS facilities, cleans and buffs floors, empties trash receptacles, inspects and cleans bathrooms twice per day, and restocks materials as needed.
Inspects, cleans, fuels, and washes automobiles, trucks and busses.
Maintains the orderly storage of tools and equipment.
Inspects fire extinguishers and eye wash stations. Keeps required records.
Transfers waste products from satellite containers, engine oil, coolant and used oil filters to storage tanks and/or shipping drums. Moves full drums into containment area and ensures drums are properly marked.
Coordinates with waste contractors staff on site to identify products awaiting disposal. Checks waste manifest for correct quantities/products being transported for disposal.
Maintains oil water separator, removes sludge from pit sumps and properly stores waste.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May supervise temporary helpers.
May require moving and lifting heavy equipment, tables, and chairs for special events and programs.
May monitor special events and programs, including cleaning up at the conclusion.
May be required to transport, mix, handle or use hazardous materials (other than gasoline, batteries, pumping fuel or access to normal janitorial cleaning materials).
Drives busses to and from outside repair facilities.
Drives vehicles and tows trailers to and from various facilities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Below are the required education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalently diploma and six (6) months of experience in laboring work, including use of tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, or construction work.
CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES
Licenses
CDL class “B” license, with passenger transport endorsement, required within one (1) month of date of appointment.
Certifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of tools used in maintenance and construction.
Some knowledge of precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanized equipment.
Skill in the use of hand tools, floor buffer, lawn equipment, and street sweeper.
Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.
Ability to work effectively with coworkers and the general public, including angry and/or abusive individuals.
Ability to read and understand detailed and complex work schedules and diagrams.
Ability to work independently with little supervision.
Ability to conform to grooming and dress codes (uniforms furnished).
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess certain physical abilities and be able to withstand work related environmental conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work requires physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform all essential functions.
Work requires bending, kneeling, crawling, and pushing/pulling up to a maximum of 100 pounds.
Work requires climbing/working at heights using ladders, scaffolding and stairs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.
Work may require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals, including fiberglass materials and resins.
Work may require performing tasks in and around heavy traffic.
Work may require exposure to prolonged high noise levels.
Must maintain assigned tools.
May be required to work outside regularly scheduled hours depending on department needs.
