PURPOSE:
As a member of the Strategy and Growth division, the Director of Corporate Development leads a team to develop and execute on the inorganic strategy in support of the CareFirst mission and vision. Leveraging past experience in strategy formulation, pipeline development, and transaction execution, the Director will lead CareFirst initiatives including mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic contracting and partnerships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development, the incumbent is responsible for, but is not limited to, the following:
- Support the refinement/refresh of the inorganic growth strategy for CareFirst.
- Lead corporate development initiatives including mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic contracting and partnerships.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to drive the day-to-day execution of corporate development initiatives.
- Develop new business models and partnership structures that advance CareFirst strategic objectives.
- Lead and support the maturation of the corporate development team.
- Seek to establish and refine the processes underlying pipeline development, transaction screening, evaluation and integration.
- Build and maintain an external network of corporate development, transaction advisors and industry thought partners.
- Create compelling, persuasive presentation materials to communicate key learnings and recommendations to executive leadership and the CareFirst Board.
- Support current and new projects and initiatives across all areas of focus within the Strategy and Growth division with a high degree of independence, rigor, and quality.
Additional core responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the development of a high performance, innovative, collaborative, and continuous learning culture.
- Communicate and coordinate with internal departments, executive management, and external stakeholders, providing clear and accurate data.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
- 11 years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, management consulting, or a corporate finance environment.
- 3 years management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of the health care and health insurance industries.
- Prior experience in strategic venture capital and fund investments.
- Masters Degree in Business Administration or advanced degree in health-related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- High degree of professionalism, discretion and confidence along with the ability to effectively interact with and influence all levels of an organization.
- Strong project management skills. Must be able to provide structure, be proactive, navigate ambiguity, manage stakeholders, hold others accountable without authority, and create appropriate professional collateral (e.g., decks, project plans, etc.).
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations to a wide variety of audiences.
- Entrepreneurial; ability to deal effectively with ambiguous situations and be flexible, as appropriate, as well as create structure to reduce ambiguity.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to organically offer perspectives and insights.
- Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret financial information and accurately explain/report activity in verbal and written communications.
Salary Range: $164,800 - $305,910

This compensation range is specific and considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilites of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, internal peer equity, and market and business consideration. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range, as compensation decisions depend on each case's facts and circumstances, including but not limited to experience, internal equity, and location.
