The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Manager, Accounting, for our Chicago office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote).
Starting base salary = $100,000- $125,000- $150,000 (commensurate with related experience). The AHA is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The Manager, Accounting, is responsible for monitoring the financial activity and reporting for reasonableness and accuracy based on contracts and projections provided by business units of the American Hospital Association. Manages highly complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and audited financial statements. Manages professional-level accounting team members and the preparation of timely, accurate financial reporting and analysis, which includes translating appropriate accounting transactions, reviewing, approving, and posting various financial transactions to the general ledger, and reviewing account reconciliations. Collaborates with and provides guidance to business units, to support their financial functions, implement process improvements, and ensure compliance with financial policies. Functions as process improvement champion, to support and advance Financial Management Transformation Initiatives, including reporting to project stakeholders, defining the team's roles and responsibilities, defining goals and milestones, and establishing and managing project timelines.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:
- Manages the accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial reports including supervising monthly account reconciliations, analysis, journal entries, month-end and annual closing processes, and audits in accordance with GAAP
- Partners with team to translate appropriate accounting transactions. Reviews, approves, and posts various financial transactions to the general ledger.
- Performs review and analysis of financial activity and reports for reasonableness and accuracy based on projections provided by business units, requesting explanations for variances where necessary.
- Reviews, monitors and creates policies and procedures to ensure proper internal controls for accounting for the activity of the organization.
- Supports and advances system and process improvements and transformation opportunities.
- Supervises, trains and develops accounting team members, building engagement, morale and motivation. Builds a high performing team.
- Provides general assistance and financial data as needed for preparation of contract budgets, creation of funder billings, and general tracking of payment and fund collection activity.
- Liaises with designated staff to translate contract budgets and forecasts into annual and monthly budgets and forecasts.
- Reviews financial statements and Board reports by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from various sources.
- Provides financial education and guidance to project leads and managers across the association.
- Collaborates with Senior Manager, Tax, to identify taxable transactions.
