Full Job Description
Reporting directly to the registrar, this role leads all aspects of university policy—development, retirement and revision. A critical role, this function maintains the policy foundation for accreditation, regulatory, legal, university operations and learner records, progression and finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Convene and facilitate the University Policy Council, a decision-making body of faculty and staff that provides academic perspective and procedural guidance and feedback on proposed policy changes. Sets agendas, maintaining minutes and serves as a resource for considerations on policy development and impacts
  • Convene and facilitate the Policy Impact and Implementation Team (PIIT), which provides feedback on policy impacts to current processes and outlines their implementation by setting agendas and maintaining minutes
  • Ensure the UPC and PIIT are appropriately staffed and their charters are relevant and up-to-date
  • Present policy changes and updates as needed to the University Board of Trustees for their review and decision.
  • Keep in regular communication with the Provost or Provost’s designee for approval to engage in proposed policy changes, as well as updates to the policy change process
  • Present procedural issues and analysis to UPC and PIIT
  • Engage with OACS, legal, Admissions, Academic Records Office, Academic Publications and other business partners to vet proposed policy changes for legal and operational viability
  • Support the timely updating of University Policy documents in the Capella University Catalog, Visitor Center, Campus and the Source
  • Ensure entire policy portfolio regularly undergoes university review and evaluation
  • Serve as policy and product portfolio SME on Marketing and Omni Channel University Reviews
  • Serve as a Capella University Subject Matter Expert on University Policy providing interpretation of policy/procedures guidelines for stakeholders
  • Determine appropriate communication conduit to the university for recent policy changes
  • Research policy issues and best practices providing analysis and recommendations as requested
  • Serve as point of contact for university community requesting policy changes or information
  • Participate in the New Products process, identifying policy guidelines and potential impacts through surveys and workgroup participation
  • Facilitate requests for policy exceptions including providing recommendations on appropriate resolutions
  • Review and take action on learner policy exception requests, working with ARO, Advising, OACS, Site Based Learning and/or Enrollment Services as needed to gather information, communicate with the learner and process approved policy exceptions

Work Experience:

  • Minimum five years working in higher education context, including leading process function as well as exposure to and understanding of university policy
  • Demonstrated interactions with individuals at various levels within the organization
  • Ability to process information, find and promote alternative solutions and balance various perspectives, exhibiting diplomacy while also helping lead and drive a committee conversation
  • Keen understanding of the higher education arena, including accreditors and regulatory bodies as well as general knowledge of federal financial aid

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social sciences major --such as communications, writing, sociology-- from an accredited institution
  • Master’s degree preferred, with preference to those with education, policy or related degrees areas
  • All degrees must be conferred from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education

Other:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • This role may require lifting, however reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with our ADA policies.
  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered.

$92,700.00 - $139,100.00 - Salary
