The Senior Maintenance Technician performs preventative and corrective maintenance on a variety of complex utility systems within Ultragenyx GMP QC laboratory and manufacturing facilities. Equipment/systems include but is not limited to HVAC systems, cold storage, compressed air and gas systems, Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Water for Injection (WFI) systems, wastewater treatment, clean steam generation, fire detection/suppression, boilers, pumps/motors, etc. The Senior Maintenance Technician will also perform corrective and preventive maintenance on GMP lab instruments and process equipment such as bioreactors, filling machines, centrifuges, rockers, chromatography columns, autoclaves, and glass washers.
The Senior Maintenance technician must be able to interpret drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications to effectively perform troubleshooting and repair activities.
Work Model:
Core Lab & Ops: This role typically requires that the majority of the work be conducted on-site.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot complex electrical and controls issues on all building systems and equipment.
- Maintain all facility equipment and systems at optimum levels of performance, efficiency, and reliability.
- Ensure that all facilities and maintenance activities are performed in accordance with current internal and external requirements for safety, quality, regulatory environmental, and compliance standards.
- Commit to continuous improvement through the identification and implementation of new ideas that positively impact a segment or area of the organization and its overall performance.
- Collaboratively work to resolve issues and improve overall organizational performance.
- Actively promote safety rules and awareness. Always demonstrate good safety practices including appropriate use of protective equipment. Reports and takes initiative to correct safety & environmental hazards.
- Perform and document all corrective and preventative maintenance activities performed on GMP facility equipment and/or systems in accordance with GDP requirements.
- Respond to emergency service calls and resolve identified issues in accordance with all safety, quality and compliance requirements.
- Participate in cross functional teams created to perform investigations, root cause analysis, deviation/CAPA creation or improvement opportunities as needed.
- Participate in an On-Call rotation for off hour facility emergencies.
- Ensure that all required quality and safety training is completed on time and current.
- Occasional travel between the Woburn and Bedford sites.
Requirements:
- HS diploma and 5-7 years of experience working in a GMP or regulated environment required.
- Experience working for a maintenance organization in a GMP Biotech/Pharmaceutical
manufacturing environment. - Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) is preferred.
- Plan/schedule complex maintenance activities around manufacturing activities.
- Source/order parts required for facility/manufacturing equipment repairs.
- Experience working within CMMS systems is required, “Blue Mountain RAM “CMMS is preferred.
- Develop/maintain MRO (Maintenance, Repair, Operations) spare part inventory
- Licensure any of the following areas is preferred: Wastewater Treatment, Refrigeration/Air Conditioning, Electrician, or Plumbing.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Products such as Word and Excel or equivalent software applications is required.
- Familiarity with safety procedures such as LOTO, Confined Space, Energy Control procedures, Arc flash, etc.
Physical Demands/Work Environment/Safety Considerations:
- Stand for extended periods of time with periodic stooping / bending / kneeling.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs of various heights.
- Able to lift, push, pull up to 50lbs.
- Work in a controlled environment requiring GxP gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body. This requires the ability to change clothes into appropriate gowning and personal protective equipment.
- Certain tasks may require use of a respirator; medical clearance will be required in advance.
- Must remove all make-up, jewelry, and contract lenses while in the manufacturing environment.

The typical annual salary range for this full-time position is listed below. This range reflects the characteristics of the job, such as required skills and qualifications and is based on the office location noted in this job posting. The range may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This position is eligible for annual bonus and equity incentives. Actual individual pay is determined by demonstrated experience and internal equity alignment.
