Job Summary
An open position for a Research Associate under the supervision of Dr. Huiyuan Wu is available in the Department of Pediatrics. We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated individual to join our team to develop small molecule therapies for rare diseases that currently have no treatment. The candidate will cooperate with the Structural Biology team to determine the lead-target interaction and evaluate the effectiveness of compounds in the mouse models of diseases. As part of small molecule therapy development team with special interests in rare diseases, this position offers opportunities to interact with highly experienced basic scientists and physician scientists, and gain research skills in structural biology, genetic mouse models, biochemistry, cell biology, and physiology. This position may be transferred to a permanent position after 1 year.

Responsibilities*
The Research Associate supports translational research within the Division of Pediatric Nephrology and is expected to understand and support the conduct of research within all federal, state and local regulatory requirements. The candidate will perform independent work under the guidance of the program director, while also collaborating as necessary to support overall program success.
Routine duties include:
- Under the direction of study PI to ensure research related procedures are completed in accordance with good practice guidelines.
- Molecular cloning, plasmid preparation, DNA and RNA extraction.
- Western blotting, PCR, and quantitative RT-PCR.
- Cell culture and transfection.
- Colony management for genetically manipulated mouse models.
- Administration of compounds to the mouse model of diseases.
- Mouse tissue collection and histological analysis.
- Microscope imaging.
- Physiological analysis and behavior tests of the mouse models.
- Lab management.
- Other duties may have to be performed as assigned necessary to maintain the smooth operation of the research program.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in Life Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.
- High interest in applying mouse models to identify new therapies for human disease
- Applicant should be motivated and willing to learn new techniques and knowledge
- Previous hands-on laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read literature and implement new procedures in accordance with the supervisor.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a research group, team, while meeting deadlines.
- Excellent attendance and strong work ethic in past settings
- Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft applications
