JOB SUMMARY:
The Project Manager position is responsible for providing technical and project leadership for Distribution Asset Management while working closely with region distribution areas statewide. The Project Manager provides input during project development, coordinates the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and closeout of projects, monitors project progress, schedules, and budgets. The Project Manager develops activities associated with distribution line capital and O&M projects for the state of Georgia. The Project Manager also serves as representative for GPC Distribution on several technology initiatives, ensuring continuity of mission critical applications that are in process of being updated or replaced, including but not limited to PDEAM, EF, GIS, Fulcrum, JETS, etc. The position also serves as Asset Management SME on Capital and O&M projects and represents GPC Asset Management across Southern Company while maintaining relationships with Industry Committees such as NEETRAC.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Education:
- Four (4) year Bachelor or Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Preferred)
Experience:
- Required - Minimum of 5 years of experience in the planning, design, construction, operation and/or maintenance of distribution.
- Highly Preferred - Previous leadership experience on technically complex projects. Previous project management experience managing large numbers of simultaneous projects/programs. Experience managing large underground distribution projects.
- Preferred - Previous experience managing Capital budgets; Previous experience as a Distribution Engineer or Journeyman
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Fluent with principles of construction, operation and maintenance of distribution operations and equipment
- Competent in Microsoft office suite of applications and current work related applications, such as, JETS, PDEAM and Fulcrum.
- Ability to effectively manage contractors, and collaborate across multiple internal organizations
- Excellent oral and written communications skills with peers, and all levels of management
- Strong trouble-shooting skills and creative problem-solving skills

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and coordinate the development of distribution line capital projects, including oversite of the engineering and estimating of jobs and the construction coordination between region and contractor crews.
- Manage approximately $80M distribution line Capital and Maintenance Budgets between the PM’s. Appx $20-$25M each in capital.
- Ensure safety and quality are maintained at all times during the project life cycle by consulting and collaborating with Construction field manager and Coordinators that provide oversight to crews.
- Coordinate reliability data, engineering, design and construction within multiple distribution areas statewide for multiple cable replacement projects throughout Georgia Power’s customer base.
- Provide proactive communication when problems arise that will impact costs, schedule, or the external public during regular business hours, and at times manage projects on weekends when needed.
- Monitor and analyze project expenditures to provide management with projected monthly, year-end, and total project costs. Eliminate budget surprises due to material cost increases and unexpected job roadblocks.
- Implement workflow planning efforts to ensure project estimate and schedules capture a well-defined and constructible scope and work plan. This may overlap year to year depending on the schedules and budgets
- Assist in identifying resources needed and provide feedback to hold team members accountable to commitments, quality, and timelines.
- Balance cost constraints, schedules, environmental requirements, regulatory requirements, and Distribution Bulletin requirements to ensure successful execution of projects.
- Provide regular updates/communications on project status (i.e., Management, Engineering Supervision, KAMs, Contractor Management, Customers).
- Route work and manage development process expeditiously to ensure execution teams (i.e., Engineers, Coordinators, Contractor Crews) have time for successful design and construction.
- Procure equipment and material in a timely manner to keep AM crews on task. Regularly communicate with supply chain to eliminate unexpected delays due to material availability.
- Provide technical guidance and input of technology improvement projects to ensure GPC Distribution is represented and best interests are considered.
- Participate in category management contract reviews and pre-bid meetings in each area of responsibility.
This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
- Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
- Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
