Team Leader – Operations
This position is accountable for supervising overall plant operations to safely achieve maximum availability of the generating units. This position provides leadership to the operating crews to maximize plant reliability and efficiency while complying with all safety, regulatory and environmental requirements. This position will be responsible for providing technical direction to direct reports and will need to have the ability to make decisions regarding equipment operation. This position will provide direct operational assistance as needed to protect plant assets. This position will provide coaching through performance management for each member of the team. This position provides input to the Plant Leadership Team concerning potential work method, process, or equipment improvements that would contribute to the success of the Plant.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Persons in this position are responsible for the day-to-day operation of all power plant equipment to maximize plant reliability and efficiency, and for ensuring the plant is operated in compliance with all safety, regulatory and environmental requirements,
- Persons in this position are responsible to keep the plant manager, departmental managers, and team leaders informed of equipment conditions, which have or could have an impact on plant operations.
- This position provides leadership for plant operations and will provide oversight of the plant operations at night, on weekends and holidays, with direct coordination of maintenance activities and fuel handling functions during these times.
- Serve as the individual responsible for all aspects of plant operation at all times. - Responsible for knowing and effecting all emergency plans such as Emergency Action Plan, Oil Spill Response Plan and Hazardous Spill Response Plan and coordinating these team efforts and assuring the safety of all plant personnel.
- Persons in this position must have a good working knowledge of all plant systems and have a good working knowledge of the switchyard and switching procedures.
- Persons in this position will be responsible for effective performance-management of his/her crew including providing training, setting goals, giving feedback and coaching.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- 5 or more years’ experience in Operations of a fossil plant - Required - Recent demonstrated leadership is required. Demonstrated leadership could include, but is not limited to, outage coordination, substitution, formal leadership roles on special projects or teams.
- Experience as a Plant Control Operator in the operation of a fossil plant is strongly desired.
- Experience in the handling and burning of Powder River Basin coal is strongly preferred.
- Experience in FGD (scrubber) operation is desired.
- Person in this position must be knowledgeable of all company policies and procedures in the areas of safety, operations, compliance, and equipment operations.
- Person in this position must have a thorough understanding of the contractual agreement between Alabama Power Company and the I.B.E.W.
- Person in this position must have the ability to cooperate with and motivate personnel in organizing training, evaluating and supervising the work of subordinates as well as interfacing with other departments and supervisors.
- Person in this position must possess the desire to effectively develop, provide feedback, and hold accountable others in the organization.
- Person in this position must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Person in this position must have the ability to develop teams and individuals through team processes and performance management.
- Person in this position must be knowledgeable of environmental, safety and OSHA regulations.
- Person in this position must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the current LOTO procedure.
- Person in this position must have analytical skills necessary to determine current and future operating conditions and trends for optimizing plant performance.
