Responsibilities*
- Provide inpatient care to pediatric and young adult patients admitted on Pediatric Gastroenterology AND Pediatric Nephrology services, including liver and kidney transplant patients and patients on dialysis.
- This is a high acuity inpatient population with complex medical needs
- Direct patient care and management would include performing histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, attend team-based rounds, processing discharges, documenting, and developing a plan of care both independently and in coordination with Pediatric Gastroenterology and Pediatric Nephrology team members.
- Interact with other subspecialties and consult services to optimize patient care
- Stabilizing and transferring patient to Pediatric ICU, if indicated
- Patient and family counseling, education, and support as necessary.
- Collaboration with and place referrals to consulting services in multidisciplinary care
- Respond to calls from patients/families and care teams.
- Contribute to the development and modification of department specific quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in professional development; attend continuing education/staff development programs to maintain knowledge of current literature.
- Triage calls from non-admitted patients or outside hospitals/emergency departments.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Nursing Specific Info
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.
Required Qualifications*
NP:
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
- Current specialty certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan OR current specialty certification as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan with two years of inpatient pediatric APP experience.
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
- DEA license
- AHA Approved BLS and PALS
- Two years of clinical experience in pediatrics.
PA
- Current licensure to practice in the State of Michigan.
- Satisfactory completion of physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or one of its predecessors agencies.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- DEA license
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
- AHA Approved BLS and PALS
- Two years of clinical experience in pediatrics.

Desired Qualifications*
- One year of nursing/clinical experience with pediatric gastroenterology patients.
- One year of nursing/clinical experience with pediatric nephrology patients.
- One year of experience practicing as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant
- Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize busy clinical practice.
Work Schedule
Hours/Week:30 hours/week
Shift/Hours/Days: Variable; Rotating days/nights (primarily nights), Monday - Sunday, including holidays.
Location: C.S. Mott Children's Hospital

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
