The Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking applicants for a Full Time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Creative Core to teach undergraduate fundamentals courses spanning art and design to begin August 1, 2025.
The foundations program in the Eskenazi School is known as Creative Core. It serves students in all of our undergraduate degree areas, including Comprehensive Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Merchandising, and all concentrations of Studio Art. Candidates should be able to convey connections across these disciplines within their pedagogy and offer perspectives that contribute to the evolving fields of art and design. Learning in Creative Core occurs through a series of approaches to a studio and discussion environment. Ideal candidates should have the technical proficiency to teach a selection of 100-level coursework, including Drawing, Color, 2-D Design, and/or 3-D Design, alongside our introductory seminar: Pathways – Intro to Art, Design + Merchandising, a large format non-studio course that introduces non-majors to overarching topics and themes relevant to practices in art and design.
Serving over 500 undergraduate students per semester, Creative Core incorporates Studio Art MFA graduate students as teaching assistant Associate Instructors to lead additional course sections. The incoming candidate will work closely mentoring and supervising a team of Associate Instructors teaching concurrent Creative Core courses and will demonstrate effective pedagogy, planning, and problem-solving strategies.
General Responsibilities include:
· Teaching five courses during the academic year. (3/2)
· Maintaining professional and academic expertise.
· Mentoring/supervising graduate student Associate Instructors.
· Assisting with Creative Core studio management.
· Providing service as needed by the area and school.
· Collaboration with annual guest artists and engagement in campus-wide events
