The Lead Facilities Mechanic reports to the Facilities Manager and is responsible for: Making repairs to and trouble-shooting laboratory/production equipment and doing general building repairs, installing and moving equipment, assisting employees with the proper use of equipment, performing preventive maintenance and working with maintenance vendors. Some additional duties include room setups, cleanup of interior and exterior of the building as needed, furniture assembly and attending to an array of facilities requests. All work must be performed in a safe, professional manner. The Lead Facilities Mechanic position will be required to work with most staff throughout the business, so a professional, approachable, supportive demeanor is required.
When will you work?
- The hours for this position are Monday – Friday 9:30 am - 6:00 pm.
What you’ll do:
- Working through a ticketing system, making repairs and modifications to equipment and building in a safe, professional, detail-oriented and timely manner. Majority of work is in drug compounding facilities. Repair types include electrical, plumbing, mechanical and general building type repairs.
- Understand, maintain and improve functionality of existing and new compounding equipment by using work experience, communication with vendors and equipment literature. Equipment types include but are not limited to automated filling machines, tablet presses, capsule machines, mixers, containment hoods, washers, autoclaves and a wide variety of bench top compounding equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on various types of drug compounding and general building equipment. Review preventive maintenance program and make recommendations.
- Maintain validation documents and detailed maintenance records in order to assist in troubleshooting, meet quality expectations and improve processes.
- Develop and maintain a spare parts inventory for all equipment to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
- Recommend and teach proper maintenance practices to other employees.
- Assist Facilities Manager in new equipment acquisition and facility renovations.
- Perform work in a manner that is consistent with regulatory requirements. Work comparable to cGMP expected.
- Develop new and revise existing Work Instructions and SOPs related to equipment use and building functions.
- Respond to off-hour emergencies.
- Assist Facilities Manager in developing and maintaining maintenance budget items.
- Manage BMS ensuring stability of building equipment and lab environment is within compliance specifications
- Assists in the implementation of preventative Facility (PM) program.
- Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentation is maintained.
- Maintain communication with other departments, management, and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production.
- Develop and implement training for other mechanics/facilities team members for proper repair and reporting of machinery.
- Oversee and review the training of department technicians for all machinery.
Who you are:
- Strong knowledge of machine and building functionality including mechanical, motors, instrumentation, electrical circuits, plumbing, HVAC, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, PLCs and others
- Ability to problem solve and to troubleshoot a variety of machine and building systems quickly and correctly.
- Ability to lead and mentor team members in mechanical duties
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Prioritize a variety of requests in a timely manner focusing on minimal loss or production time.
- Generate and retrieve reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common computer applications.
