SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator supporting operations within a local Naval Facility in Great Lakes, IL.
SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 150 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.
The pay range for this position will be $46-$47/hr. SJS also offers 11 paid federal holidays, 56 hours of sick time accrual, medical, dental, vision, and a variety of additional benefits.
Responsibilities:
- The Equipment operator will operate gasoline or diesel-powered heavy-duty earth moving or road building equipment with either wheeled or crawler type traction.
- The Operator will operate equipment by means of various engine speeds, gear shifting, hydraulic pressure, clutch, brake, and steering controls, differing widely from those on ordinary trucks or passenger cars, and frequently manipulates different sets of controls simultaneously to maneuver basic vehicle in coordination with working attachments.
- The Equipment Operator excavates earth for installation or repair of various underground utility systems, such as sanitary and storm sewers, water distribution, steam piping, natural gas, and high voltage electric; and back fills excavations when complete, restoring work site to original grade and landscapes area.
- The candidate is designated as a member of the Facility Spill Response Team and will be required to respond to oil spill emergencies. Candidate will be trained to operate spill response equipment and on containment and defensive oil and hazardous substance response strategies.
- The candidate is designated as an Essential employee and is required to work regardless of emergency conditions or closure of the Naval Base. In addition, the candidate is a snow team member and is required to respond to snow emergencies declared by the Director of Transportation or normal plowing operations initiated by his immediate supervisor or other emergencies such as sewer backups, water main breaks, electric outages, etc.
Qualifications:
- The Operator must be able to read blueprints and shoot grades with a Transit for the installation of sewer and water piping.
- The Operator must be able to read utility blueprints for the maintenance and troubleshooting of distribution system deficiencies.
- The Equipment Operator serving in this position may at any time be assigned to any site or workstation within a 50-mile radius as a condition of employment.
- Position requires extensive knowledge of theoretical and practical use of analog and digital electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, electromechanical devices, hydraulics, thermodynamics, optics, physics, and computer science.
- The candidate is required to possess and maintain a state Commercial Driver's License, Class A
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
