Occ Summary

This position collaborates with healthcare pr oviders by performing avariety of clerical duties to support patient car e.Duties includegreeting patients and visitors, answering the telephone ,responding topatient's requests, accessing the electronic medical recor d(EMR),scheduling appointments and providing general clerical support as neededby the department. This position will consistently exhibits excell entcustomer service skills.


Work Performed

Answer pat ient signals and relay request to appropriate individual.Place calls for consultations as neededUnderstand and is able to use the manual back up system as needed.Assemble and maintain patient charts from admission th rough dischargePrepare and upload paper documents into the electronic me dical record(EMR).Navigate electronic medical record, access patient inf ormation, generatereports, schedule appointments and manage task list.Us e available technology to request and coordinate patient transport.Assig n nursing staff to communication systems.Assist in reviewing clerical du ties and responsibilities with new staffmembers.Order supplies for theun it; maintain inventory and replenish asnecessary.Copy, file, mail and/or distribute materials as appropriate.Maintain records as required by the unit (i.e. time sheets, continuingeducation information, etc.).Schedule maintenance in automated schedule system as directed by NurseManageror designeeGenerate reports as directed by Nurse Manager or designee (Examp le:compliance)Participate in review of activities and processes for area of work.Assists in implementing changes to effect continual improvement inservices provided; and complies with regulatory and legal requirement s.Exhibit professional communication skill when answering the telephonea nd interacting with patients, visitors and other staff members.Roundand greet patients each shift and explain their role.Greets patients, visito rs, physicians and employees in a pleasant mannerand refers to appropria te areas as needed.Answers phones, screens and refers calls as appropria te, deliversmessages and provides information to patients, visitorsand p ersonnelupon request.Assist unit management in tracking inventory,stocki ng issues andmaintaining adequate patient care supplies.Perform other re lated duties incidental to the work described herein.


Knowle dge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of HIS procedures and of manu al procedures when the system isdown.Successful completion of TJCand oth erregulatory/designatedrequirements within the probationary period.Know ledge and understanding of telephone etiquette.Knowledge of general cler ical practices and procedures.Knowledge of spelling and medical terminol ogy.Ability to apply specific departmental rules and regulationsrelating toverifying, processing and maintaining records and forms.Ability to or ganize and set priorities.Ability to operate computer terminal and other office equipment.Ability to write legibly.Ability to understandand foll ow oral and written instructions.Ability to deal tactfully andcourteousl y with the public. Ability toestablish and maintain effectiverelationshi ps with other personnel.
