The American University of Iraq - Baghdad (AUIB) seeks exceptional faculty for AUIBs new College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). As an American-style university, the CEHD founding faculty will be innovative instructors and culturally responsive educators committed to preparing educators whose primary language is often not English. The college is hiring for the Spring 2025.
AUIB seek faculty who:
- Teach foundational education courses at the undergraduate and eventually graduate level.
- Collaborate with the CEHD team to refine the Teaching & Learning Design (TLD) program to support novice educators as they develop a commitment to and skills for equitable and ambitious teaching practices through embedded simulations and/or other practice-situated immersion experiences.
- For the CEHD, we are looking to hire faculty that have expertise in at least one of the following domains:
- a. Math and Science Education
- b. Special Education
- c. Curriculum and Instruction
- d. Comparative Higher Education
- e. Higher Education Leadership and Management
- f. Organizational Leadership
- g. Nonprofit management
AUIBs CEHD is working in partnership with Vanderbilt Universitys Peabody College of Education and Human Development to develop higher education for academic excellence and build a stronger educator workforce in the region. Funded by a second two-year U.S. State Department grant, Peabody College is supporting the design of the CEHD and its programs with a focus on teacher training, learning design, and higher education administration and leadership. The college welcomed its inaugural cohort of students in January 2024.
Role of Faculty:
Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Teach introductory and advanced education courses for undergraduate students in the Teaching & Learning Design (TLD) program
- Advise students on matters that relate to their course schedule and academic success.
- Participate in programs, college, and University meetings, various committees, and recruitment activities.
- Design and supervise practicum, immersion experiences, and student teaching.
- Assist in program and college planning and curriculum design.
- Contribute to ongoing program review, assessment, and evaluation.
- Engage in research initiatives led by the college in partnership with universities, schools, and other organizations which can lead to publication.
- Observe the rules, regulations and policies that govern teaching, research, and interactions with members of the university community.
The CEHD faculty report directly to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development
Qualifications and Qualities:
The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications and personal qualities:
- Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in areas of education from accredited universities.
- A record of teaching experience in a university setting.
- Experience in/with the American system of higher education and K-12 education; familiarity with international education systems.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication in English.
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues.
Personal qualities Enthusiasm for cross-cultural learning, innovation, and dynamic environments; engagement in the learning process with integrity, trust, and curiosity; flexibility and openness to work with colleagues from different cultures. Prior experience in MENA region is preferred but not required.
Safety and Security:
The beautiful and historic AUIB campus is located on a secure 643-acre campus, formally the Al Faw Palace, just outside of Baghdads city center and adjacent to the Baghdad International airport. The university and its administration are committed to its employees safety and security; the university has specific protocols and procedures in place, including a security perimeter surrounding the campus, escorted travel off campus, and other ongoing security processes such as vetting all individuals coming and going from campus, as well as on-campus security.
Once on campus, there are restaurants and cafes, a faculty club, sport facilities, shopping, health clinic, and other amenities that make everyday life at AUIB and in Baghdad comfortable. Faculty and staff live on a secure campus in university-provided housing. Faculty and staff have access to a bus system, golf carts, and/or bikes to move around the campus.

Finalists will be asked to submit copies of passport data page, all formal academic degrees and certificates, and copies of transcripts.
