Overview:

McGuireWoods is seeking a Docket Coordinator to join our Docketing Risk Management Department. This person will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all court filings and related deadlines, supporting the legal team in delivering exceptional service.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor court filings, extract critical dates, and update docketing systems, supplementing automated rule sets as needed.
  • Maintain the integrity of the docketing system and ensure quality assurance of all deadlines.
  • Identify complex requests and assign cases based on team expertise.
  • Record and track critical dates in CourtAlert and calculate procedural deadlines based on applicable rules.
  • Conduct legal research on court rules, case statuses, and court orders.
  • Assist in developing training materials and best practices for the docketing department.
  • Provide recommendations to enhance legal knowledge, processes, and procedures.
  • Train new staff and support ongoing development of docketing team members.
  • Partner with attorneys, paralegals, and vendors to obtain court files and ensure accurate docketing.
  • Generate specialized docket reports and send timely reminders of upcoming court appearances.
  • Liaise with courts and administrative offices to confirm rules and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Combination of college-level training or a paralegal certificate with relevant experience demonstrating the ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in litigation docketing, calendaring, or a legal support role with docket responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in CourtAlert (or similar docketing software), PACER, LexisNexis, Westlaw, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local court rules and procedures, with the ability to accurately calculate deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate in a virtual environment and interact with all organizational levels.
  • Capable of working under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Professional demeanor with a proactive, solution-oriented approach to supporting the firm and its legal teams.
