Full Job Description

The Town of Wellesley is currently seeking a Director of Veterans Services.  Under the direction of the West Suburban Veterans’ District Board, the Director serves as the Board’s liaison to the Secretary of Veterans’ Services of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is accountable for the administration and delivery of veterans’ services for the District within the statutory requirements of Massachusetts General Laws.  This position requires frequent interaction with the general public and Veterans, both face-to-face and over the telephone, and with Town Managers and Town Administrators in Wellesley, Needham, Wayland, Weston, and Westwood and senior personnel from other departments. Duties include administering provisions of and providing case management to recipients MGL CH 115, assisting veterans and their dependents with information on and paperwork processing for available benefits and services, establishing with outreach programs, and coordinating the observances of Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day in District communities.  The incumbent meets regularly with outside organizations and works with minimal supervision and attendance at select Veteran events on weekday evenings and Veteran holidays is expected. 

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree and one to three years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in veterans’ services, human relations, social service fields of business.  The incumbent must be a veteran in accordance with Massachusetts State law and must complete the DVS certification process within one (1) year of their initial appointment and every three (3) years thereafter, in accordance with MGL CH 115, Section 3B(b).  Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing the provision of Veterans services, a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to perform all essential duties are also required.

Pay range is $59,284 - $89,859 annually and includes a $3,000 transportation stipend.
