Overview:

Respiratory Health Association (RHA) has been a leader in public health since 1906, helping for over a century to prevent lung disease, promote clean air, and help people live better through education, research, and policy change.

Respiratory Health Association is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee its accounting and finance operations. The Director of Finance is responsible for maintaining the Association's books and financial records, managing the financial aspects of grants, ensuring compliance with funding agencies, and providing accurate financial reporting. Candidates will have firsthand experience with nonprofit or governmental accounting principles and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Monthly Reporting - The Director is responsible for preparing balance sheets, profit, and loss statements, and other financial reports, including analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. Reports organization's finances to management and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts. Summarizes current financial status by collecting information, substantiate transactions by auditing documents and maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.

Grant Reporting- The Director works closely with Programs and Policy dept on grant requirements. Prepares monthly grant payroll allocations based on annual budget and updates as requested. Maintains grant project accounting; prepares grant close-out reports. Ensures all required cost submissions are completed in a timely fashion; follows up on unpaid balances. Provides responses to grant audits.

Budgeting - The Director leads the annual budget process. Provides template structure for project reports and reviews for completion. Provides budget reports and summarization to CEO for review and meetings. Tracks changes and updates reports; provides final budget schedules to CEO for board approval. Obtains and reviews monthly budgets from project owners,

Cash Flow- The Director is responsible for overall cash management to ensure funds availability. With Accounting Assistant, tracks daily cash activity and responds to positive pay system requirements. Prepares month-end bank reconciliation and provides cash flow projections as required.

Accounting Department Management- The Director directs Accounting Assistant in performing cash receipts, billing, and accounts payable responsibilities. Approves vendor invoices for payment. Follows up on past due receivables. Resolves issues with third party accounting software support resources.

Annual Audit- The Director plans and schedules process with CPA firm. Prepares analysis and audit report schedules as requested, coordinates supporting document requests with Accounting Assistant and Development dept. Reviews audit report draft and resolves questions. Obtains CEO and board approval for audit report release.

Tax Compliance Support - The Director is the lead contact in providing the required form 990 annual disclosures to accounting firm. Prepares accounting related analysis, coordinates other information responses with RHA Directors. Reviews RHA 990 for financial disclosure completeness and provides draft to CEO for review.

Salary/Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $75-$80,000 annually (30 hrs/wk - 2 days in office)

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting
Five to ten years of overall professional experience, with at least three years managing financial reporting for a nonprofit organization with several grant requirements.
Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge
Non-profit or governmental accounting software experience
MIP ABILA Fund Accounting and Ramp is a plus.
The ability to think critically and communicate effectively on a variety of projects.
