Full Job Description

GSK is continuing to become a more data-driven customer centric organization where we are focused on building marketers’ foundational technical capabilities and supporting the marketing organization to enable improvements in our ways of working. To ensure these important initiatives are successful, we are adding four business-unit-aligned roles (Vaccines, Specialty, Oncology, and Anti-Infective & Respiratory), Marketing Capabilities Directors, to the Strategic Operations & Capabilities team. Reporting to the Head of Marketing Capabilities, these roles will support Marketing leaders and their teams, serving as the single point of contact for Brands to the Marketing Transformation Program initiatives, including Insights & Analytics, Marketing Operations, and Digital, Data and Tech teams. They will assist Marketing Leadership in developing and executing their business unit (BU) Marketing Transformation and Capability plans and ensure readiness for future tools and capabilities based on brand needs and readiness from the more forward-looking product and capability workstreams. For these roles we are looking for dynamic leaders with strong marketing expertise. The incumbents will be subject matter experts on the fundamentals of marketing, understand GSK’s vision to build a best-in-class marketing organization and therefore pull through objectives aimed at developing marketers to reach their full potential. The role requires a high degree of change-leadership.

  • Have a deep understanding of and the ability to coach/lead marketing teams on the ‘GSK way’ of marketing – inclusive of tools/frameworks/capabilities, ensuring that each BU operates as a part of a singular marketing organization
  • Ensure commercial marketing leaders and their teams get the most out of the resources available to drive excellence in marketing capability within their function
  • Develop & Update Business Unit Capability Plans w/ brands (part of Ops Planning and Assessment Process w/Leaders)
  • Support and empower Brand Leadership to drive tactical implementation of capability plans, identifying key knowledge/skill gaps and working with enterprise teams to build consistent and scalable solutions to address them
  • Identify enterprise gaps and appropriate resources, training, coaching, mentoring, etc., to close gaps across US Commercial collectively
  • Identify Business Unit / Brand specific needs then work with our external partners and internal stakeholders on the creation and pull through of appropriate training.
  • Provide feedback to GSK SMEs (Digital, Data and Tech, Insights & Analytics and Marketing Operations) to what is working/not working in processes.
  • Update program tools, training, reporting for ongoing optimization.
  • Schedule and assist leaders with assessment process, scoring and reporting. Assessment is done by leaders but supported by Capability Lead
  • Assist in identifying and measuring key performance indicators for the efficacy of the marketing excellence function and for the effective utilization of the marketing capability framework within their assigned Business Unit.
  • Bring an outside in view to marketing excellence at GSK through participation in conferences and other industry sources/activities
  • Outwardly role models GSK’s cultural pillars through the execution of their work.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 5+ years of marketing experience in one or more of the following (E.G., biopharma, life sciences, consumer package goods, financial services)

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Advanced degree (MBA in marketing)
  • A comprehensive understanding of advanced marketing concepts including market analysis, consumer behavior, branding, positioning, and strategic planning
  • Proficiency in utilizing a wide range of marketing tools and techniques such as advanced digital marketing platforms, analytics tools, automation software, and CRM systems.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience leading and delivering on projects
  • Experience understanding and leading Change initiatives
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders at varying levels of the organization
  • Functional diversity in a commercial biopharma environment (E.G., Marketing, Finance, Analytics, etc.)
  • Therapeutic Area/Brand Lifecycle Diversity
  • Global experience in a marketing function
  • People management
