Job Description
Empanada Smiles, a locally owned Argentine food truck and catering service, seeks an Empanada Chef with deep expertise in traditional Argentine empanada-making. The ideal candidate will have verifiable experience crafting empanadas using authentic methods specific to Argentina’s northwest regions.
This position is highly specialized and suited for individuals with a profound understanding of:
- Different empanada folding techniques
- Traditional fillings and lard-based dough preparation from Argentina and other South American countries
- Cultural significance of Hispanic or Argentine street food and working within mobile food units
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook authentic Argentine dishes, including empanadas, choripan, and various Hispanic or Argentine specialties.
- Develop and refine recipes to maintain authenticity and improve taste and presentation.
- Manage kitchen operations, including inventory, ordering, and food safety.
- Train and supervise kitchen staff.
- Ensure consistent quality and presentation of all dishes.
- Collaborate with management to create special menus and events.
Work Schedule
40 hours/week, variable shifts including weekends, early mornings, and late nights. Must be available for high-demand periods (e.g., local festivals, match days).
Job Location
On-site at our Tallahassee food trailer and at regional events (travel within Florida may be required).
Minimum Requirements
- At least 3 years of direct culinary experience working with Hispanic or Argentine cuisine.
- Proven training or mentorship under a Hispanic or Argentine chef (documented).
- Experience working in restaurants or mobile food operations.
- Ability to maintain food safety standards in variable outdoor environments.
Salary/Compensation: $21.84 - $23.00 per hour
