Skills and Competencies

  • A minimum of 5-8 years' experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism.

  • In-house or agency experience preferred, ideally with some background in insurance or financial services.

  • Ability to manage 1-2 entry-level to mid-career communications professionals in hybrid or remote setting.

  • Strong story-telling mindset essential, business-consumer or financial influencer outreach experience a plus.

  • Experience with development and activation of integrated, multi-channel communications strategies and campaigns, including social media.

  • Excellent presentation skills and impactful on-screen presence, able to advise and influence business partners.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in communications or related discipline.

Responsibilities

The AVP primarily supports the execution of media outreach strategies to help achieve business goals, developing and refining communications tactics and materials.

  • Responsible for strategic planning and promoting Moody's thought leadership and/or marketing messages to the media; develops key message documents, Q&As, PR plans.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and media outlets.

  • Supports and executes relevant US and global communications campaigns.

  • Acts as leader on the external communications team, managing 1-2 strategist-level team members and actively advising stakeholders and colleagues on public relations best practices

  • Proactively pitch story ideas, Moody's spokesperson commentary, and thought leadership research to relevant media contacts; identify opportunities for media interviews, earned speaking engagements, and other media-related activities.

  • Respond to media inquiries promptly and effectively, ensuring accurate and positive coverage.

  • Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on resulting coverage.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align communication efforts with marketing, branding, public relations, and investor relations activities.

  • Occasional weekend/out of hours cover for media relations inbox/phone line is required.

About the team

The External Communications will sit within Global Corporate Affairs Team as an integral part of Moody's Shared Services, the branch of Moody's responsible for providing professional services to support the success of our global MIS & MA businesses

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is [[$125,800 - [[$182,350, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody's also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
