Summary

The School of Applied Human Development invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Sport Management with a start date of August 2025.

Bowling Green State Universitys Sport Management program, accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), has an outstanding national and international reputation for producing successful professionals in the sport industry. The programs active alumni network provides opportunities to students and faculty for networking and professional collaboration. The program differentiates the student experience by emphasizing experiential learning (with two professional field experiences) and offers smaller classes and faculty advising to support student success. Students have completed internships with minor and major league sports teams and other professional athletic associations, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Toledo Mud Hens, Special Olympics, and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. Students also have opportunities to take a part major sports events such as the Super Bowl, MLS All-Star Game, and many NCAA tournaments.

The School of Applied Human Development is a multidisciplinary school within the College of Education and Human Development that is dedicated to communicating, advancing, and applying knowledge that fosters the well-being of individuals and families. There are approximately 800 students in the undergraduate programs of Exercise Science, Fashion Merchandising and Product Development, Human Development and Family Science, Interior Design, Sport Management, and Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management; and in the graduate programs of Athletic Training and Human Movement and Sport. The school is supported by approximately thirty-seven full-time faculty and staff.

The College of Education and Human Development, BGSUs founding college, is the home to a dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate programs, housed across three academic units: the School of Applied Human Development; the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations; and the School of Inclusive Teacher Education. Approximately 150 full-time faculty and staff serve over 3,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students. The College promotes and supports a community of inclusion, collaboration, and respect for students, faculty, and staff. This strong sense of community serves as the central tenet for the Colleges priorities for integrating professional preparation, leadership and service, experiential learning, and inquiry and innovation in all academic programs and related experiences. Essential Functions

Primary Functions

  1. Teach undergraduate courses in the Sport Management program and graduate courses in the Sport Administration specialization.
  2. Develop a research program including publications and presentations.
  3. Contribute to the school, college, university, and profession through service and engagement activities.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Teach effectively in at least two of the following content areas related to sport management: marketing, finance, governance, leadership, management, and Esport.
  2. Provide service to the program, school, college, university, and professional associations.
  3. Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
  4. Conduct a focused line of research and disseminate findings in peer-reviewed, scholarly journals and other professionally-relevant outlets.
  5. Supervise internship (introductory and capstone) students in the Sport Management program.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Sport Management, or related field.ABDs are eligible to apply, but all requirements for the doctoral degree must be met bythe start of employment (August 2025).


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Evidence of effective teaching experience at the university level.
  2. Prior experience teaching or assisting in the development of on-line courses.
  3. Evidence of scholarly activities including research, publications, and presentations.
  4. Sport industry experience.
