WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Aquatic Inasive Species Manager plans and directs AIS monitoring programs to ensure efforts are strategic, addresses critical threats of AIS to natural systems and individual species, and helps prevent the spread of invasive species through education and partnership building. The AISM develops and disseminates data to support implementation of conservation strategies and secures public and private support for conservation priorities. The AISM fosters community support, oversees multiple projects, sets deadlines, manages projects to completion. The AISM oversees seasonal staff and contractors to ensure that deliverables are successfully met and on time.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience in natural resource management with a focus on environmental monitoring, aquatic invasive species, or similar field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing monitoring programs.
  • Experience managing staff, contractors, or volunteers.
  • Experience using software applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems and field data collection techniques.
  • Experience in training and formal presentation design/delivery.
  • Must have valid driver's license and experience safely operating small watercraft.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in aquatic systems or related field, such as environmental monitoring and management, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience applying science to strategic decision-making, creating plans, and experience managing and analyzing large quantities of data.
  • Relationship building skills and ability to work closely with a variety of partners like lake associations and agency staff.
  • Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in aquatic conservation, management of freshwater systems, or natural resources.
  • Working as part of a team with project management skills and ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

The Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) is an award-winning invasive species program that leads The Nature Conservancy's invasive species work in the Adirondacks in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. APIPP is one of eight established Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISMs) in New York, whose mission is to work in partnership to minimize the impacts of invasive species on the Adirondack region's communities, lands, and waters. Program goals are to build partnerships, prevent new invasive species introductions to the region, detect and rapidly respond to new infestations, and mitigate harmful impacts of established infestations. APIPP advances a comprehensive, integrated approach that incorporates awareness building, prevention, early detection, rapid response, monitoring, restoration, and innovation strategies. This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program.

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.


SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $68,000 - $71,500 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
